Truth Bomb: You Don't Have to Meditate Every Day!

My self-care tools have been hot items on my survival list the past week.

I’ve been in my head and feelings way too much, and feeling crappy.

The beautiful part of it all is that I can OBSERVE it within myself - I can distance myself with it all and see that it’s time to get down to business in releasing the nagging voice and low vibes that had taken over!

What I did:
“NOTHING”.
Saturday is when I did NOTHING related to anything that was stressing me out.

Instead I:
  • read a hilarious book in a series I adore and literally LOL’d (check out the series Good to the Last Death by Robyn Peterman. Fun fact- she’s married to actor Steve Zahn - so you know she’s got a sense of humor!)
  • I laid on a towel on the grass. I walked barefoot. I soaked up the sun for hours. I played with my dogs. I made a yummy pasta salad.
  • took photos of my dogs and flowers in the garden
  • blasted my Beach Vibes playlist. Feel free to catch summer vibes by listening to it here!
I intentionally raised my vibes, improved my mood, and let go of the shitty thoughts I was feeling.

This lead me to naturally flow, so I -
  • did some laundry because I felt like it  - NOT because I shamed myself into action
  • did dishes and cleaned up the kitchen
  • made that pasta salad
  • gave both dogs a bath
See, the difference from years ago Jenny and NOW Jenny is:
past me would’ve guilted and shamed herself with “shoulds”, stressing herself out and making said chores even MORE miserable. She probably would’ve avoided doing them by sitting on the couch. Not relaxing- instead, nervous system dysregulated and in a freeze mode. Those damn SHOULDS are vicious!

NOW Jenny: I observe what is actually going on inside myself. I now give a shit about my well-being first and foremost (finally!), so I give myself some space to process and release. I know that things won’t change themselves- my power lies in taking care of myself!
  • The tools aren’t always meditation (although it really does help!!)
  • Your self-care journey doesn’t have to be intimidating or overwhelming.
  • It can be whatever brings you back to center and full of joy!
  • Baby steps to re-wire your brain for new habits. Adding in new things slowly when they feel right.
