Fun fact- she&acirc;&#128;&#153;s married to actor Steve Zahn - so you know she&acirc;&#128;&#153;s got a sense of humor!)</li><li>I laid on a towel on the grass. I walked barefoot. I soaked up the sun for hours. I played with my dogs. I made a yummy pasta salad.</li><li>took photos of my dogs and flowers in the garden</li><li>blasted my Beach Vibes playlist. Feel free to catch summer vibes by <a href="https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2ukVBxA5o4HpDplgivqPkx?si=3b0743a1640540fa" target="_blank">listening to it here!</a></li></ul><strong>I intentionally raised my vibes, improved my mood, and let go of the shitty thoughts I was feeling.</strong><br><br>This lead me to naturally flow, so I -<ul style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><li>did some laundry <em>because I felt like it</em> &nbsp;- NOT because I shamed myself into action</li><li>did dishes and cleaned up the kitchen</li><li>made that pasta salad</li><li>gave both dogs a bath</li></ul>See, the difference from years ago Jenny and NOW Jenny is:<br>past me would&acirc;&#128;&#153;ve guilted and shamed herself with &acirc;&#128;&#156;shoulds&acirc;&#128;&#157;, stressing herself out and making said chores even MORE miserable. She probably would&acirc;&#128;&#153;ve avoided doing them by sitting on the couch. Not relaxing- instead, nervous system dysregulated and in a freeze mode. Those damn SHOULDS are vicious!<br><br>NOW Jenny: I observe what is actually going on inside myself. I now give a shit about my well-being first and foremost (finally!), so I give myself some space to process and release. I know that things won&acirc;&#128;&#153;t change themselves- my power lies in taking care of myself!<ul style="color:rgb(0, 0, 0)"><li>The tools aren&acirc;&#128;&#153;t always meditation (although it really does help!!)<br></li><li>Your self-care journey doesn&acirc;&#128;&#153;t have to be intimidating or overwhelming.<br></li><li>It can be whatever brings you back to center and full of joy!<br></li><li>Baby steps to re-wire your brain for new habits. I want to share part of my WHY with you.<br /><br />I&rsquo;m so passionate about self-care because the practices I teach are what pulled me out of a deep, dark depression.<br /><br />It was 2017 - I was District Teacher of the Year, in a bunch of leadership roles, and super busy. From the outside, I had the &ldquo;perfect life&rdquo; going on.<br /><br />But I got really good at masking my suffering. Little did people know, I would go home to my &ldquo;cave&rdquo; aka living room, where I&rsquo;d close the curtains, put a show on Netflix, and play my Bubble Pop game aimlessly for hours, often sobbing for no reason. Some days it was so bad that I could&rsquo;ve sunk deep into the couch and never gotten up again.<br /><br />As I&rsquo;ve shared before, it was a crisp South Carolina morning in February of 2018 that led me to healing (yes, this situation lasted for over 1.5 years for me). I followed a nudge and picked up Eckhart Tolle&rsquo;s <em>The Power of Now. </em><br /><br /><em>I read the first chapter and felt seen - and I sobbed. I cuddled with my sweet dog Scout under a blanket and let the tears flow. </em><br /><br /><em>Something cracked open within me. He talked about observing nature without a story. Just being.</em><br /><br /><em>So that&rsquo;s what I did that morning - listened to sounds, smelled the air, felt the cool breeze against my tear-stained face.</em><br /><br /><em>I felt alive. FINALLY. I could feel energy flowing in me again.</em><br /><br /><em>From there, I devoured his book and put his tips into practice. </em><br /><br /><em>I went to a yoga workshop on meditation and started back into meditation- doing it 3 minutes a day.</em><br /><br /><em>I journaled the crap out of my thoughts and feelings.</em><br /><br /><em>I breathed deeply.</em><br /><br /><em>I found myself again- but it took time, and a growing dedication to feeling better and finding relief from the heaviness I&rsquo;d been feeling for so long.</em><br /><br />This is why I care so deeply about helping others.
